I turned 40 in February. It was a quiet birthday, just my wife and 2 daughters (ages 2 and 5) were with me at home to celebrate. No fanfare, no big party, no wild hangover the next day. I went to bed one night when I was 39, woke up the next day and turned 40 somewhere in the late afternoon…
Forty. 40. The number looks better than the word…
I’m married to a great woman named Kathleen (I will usually refer to her as “Kat” in most of the posts). We’ve been together since ’96 and married since ’99. She is the love of my life. We have 2 amazing, beautiful daughters; one is 2 years old and the other is 5 years old. My wife and 2 daughters are my raison d’ĂȘtre; they give me purpose and ground me. Apparently, it is my destiny to be surrounded by beautiful women.
I am an IT professional and have been in the industry since 1995. I like what I do and I love technology. My wife thinks I am a geek, some of my friends think I am a nerd…One day I will try to explain the difference; there is a difference, really. Geeks are cooler…
My interests and hobbies are varied, but I am a car nut more than anything. I love cars, all cars, anything with wheels. I love old ones, new ones, big ones, small ones… but most of all, I love fast ones! I like bikes, boats, computers & technology, photography, building things, camping, wine, cooking, working out, writing, and music. Music, sweet music; everything from the classics like Sinatra and Dino to Zeppelin and Floyd to Pearl Jam and Nirvana to B.B. King and Albert King… Music plays an important role in my life, despite the fact that I can’t play any instruments.
I grew up in New York, a stone’s throw away from The Big Apple. I am a New Yorker at heart, even though home is now southern Delaware, just a few minutes from the resort town of Rehoboth Beach. We traded the skyscrapers for beaches and the malls for farms. Life is different here “on the shore”, but this is what we wanted for raising the girls.
I decided to do 40daze because I know I am one of millions of guys out there that are just like me; we had dreams of doing something great one day, something meaningful, deep, and better. We weren’t going to sell out and be one of those guys; but somehow, life got in the way of the ideals. Hopes, dreams, and passion were shelved a while ago for the steady paycheck. You might have noticed the tagline, “The pursuit of self”; what that means is that we’re going to take it back and look at who we are, where we are, and where we are going.
